Ridge Pike Over Sanatoga Creek:

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation today announced that construction will begin Monday (April 19) on a $2,212,369 project to rehabilitate the deteriorated Ridge Pike Bridge over Sanatoga Creek in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County. The project is scheduled to finish in December 2010.

From June 13 to August 31, the Ridge Pike Bridge will be closed and detoured to allow the contractor to make major structural repairs. A posted detour will take motorists over Evergreen Road, Route 422 and Armand Hammer Boulevard during this time. Local access will be maintained up to the bridge and access to business driveways near the structure will be maintained during construction.

Township Line Road Realignment:

  • The Archdiocese of Philadelphia to close Township Line Road between Linfield Trappe Road and Buckhalter Road in Limerick and Upper Providence townships, Montgomery County, beginning March 16 for road reconstruction, the 24-hour detour is expected to finish by June 18.

During construction, Township Line Road through traffic will be detoured over Lewis Road and Ridge Pike. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia will complete the work under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

US 422 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Project:

  • Construction crews will rehabilitate Route 422 from a half-mile east of the Route 29 (Collegeville) Interchange to 1,500 feet west of the Royersford Interchange in Upper Providence and Limerick townships, respectively.  The project is scheduled to finish in July 2010.

  • Crews will remove areas of deteriorated concrete pavement and pour new concrete patches on eastbound Route 422.  They also will resurface the concrete pavement with asphalt; repair 12 bridges; repair ramps at the Route 29 and Royersford interchanges; install safety rumble strips on roadway shoulders; clean existing pipe culverts; and install new guide rail, reflective pavement markers, and Intelligent Transportation System conduit.

US 422 River Crossing Project:

  • Interim Action for Additional US 422 Lane Westbound:
This $5 million project (currently under construction, and expected to be complete in November 2008) is the first phase of the River Crossing Project and involves modifying the median and parapet of the westbound lanes on the existing US 422 bridge which will allow for an additional westbound lane. The ramps of the PA 23 interchange will be reconfigured to reduce current merging problems. This effort will help reduce the major routine congestion and backups in the afternoon peak period traffic westbound.  Half of the approximately 2000 vehicles an hour that enter westbound US 422 from PA 23 on weekday evenings exit the highway at Trooper Road (PA 363).

  • Replacement of the Old Betzwood Bridge:
The original Betzwood Bridge was removed over 15 years ago, and diverted local traffic from Trooper Road onto US 422. Replacement of this bridge will improve local mobility and enhance access to Valley Forge National Historic Park for bicycliss and pedestrians.  An anticipated construction date will be set once issues regarding asbestos removal from Valley Forge National Historic Park are resolved.

  • PA 363/US 422 Interchange Remedies:
A new on ramp from PA 363 (Trooper Road) to US 422 westbound and an off ramp from US 422 eastbound to PA 363 (Trooper Road) will improve access and help relieve serious congestion in this area. Currently there is no 422 westbound on ramp or 422 eastbound off ramp at Trooper Road. Also included with this project is a westbound off ramp from US 422 to Adams Avenue in the Valley Forge Corporate Center. An anticipated construction date is unavailable at this time and will be set once funding is determined.

  • US 422 Widening and Schuylkill River Bridge Replacement:
The widening of US 422 from above US 202 and through Trooper Road will improve traffic flow, and ease congestion. Two new lanes will be constructed in the median area of US 422. This project also includes the eventual replacement of the Schuylkill River Bridge and widening to include four lanes of travl in each direction.  An anticipated construction date is unavailable at this time and will be set once funding is determined.

  • PA 23 and US 422 Interchange Remedies:
This phase of the project will involve constructing a new off ramp from US 422 eastbound to PA 23. Along with the new off ramp, North Gulph Road will be relocated and widened. A landscaped buffer zone alongside the relocation will reduce the noise and visual impacts of traffic into Valley Forge National Historic Park. The “gateway” to the park will be enhanced with this project.  An anticipated construction date is unavailable at this time and will be set once funding is determined.
